PTA Classroom Reps promote the fourth purpose of PTA.

“To bring into closer relation the home and the school so that families and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth."

These important volunteers can be mothers or fathers, aunts and uncles, grandparents, or any important adult in a student’s life. They serve as a connection between families, teachers, the school, and the PTA.

Classroom Reps must be current PTA members and can do any or all of the following based on each teacher’s individual needs:

  • Enlists help for the teacher as requested (such as: making copies)

  • Recruits volunteers for classroom and PTA events

  • Communicates with the class on behalf of the teacher and PTA

  • Communicates with the PTA on behalf of the class

  • Attend PTA meetings and share information with the class via email

  • Works with the teacher to ensure the classroom has the supplies it needs

  • Encourages parents to join the PTA and volunteer for school events

  • Optional: Build a more tight-knit class community by planning class activities such as: potlucks, parents night out, park playdates, etc.

Communication is the most significant task of the Room Rep. An email list can be used to remind parents about upcoming events (e.g., PTA events, volunteer needs, teacher needs and school schedules).

It’s an important job and we’d love your help!
